How to Set Up Meta Pixel Conversions for Song and Playlist Ads

Many advertisers optimize for Page Views, but that's often not enough. If your goal is to get users to click through to Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, or any other streaming platform, you should optimize for that specific action instead.

In this guide, we'll show you how to set up your Meta Pixel correctly using Escalium and other known platforms such as artisthub or feature.fm

Please keep in mind we wrote this article only after we tested and created multiple campaings where we spent well over $200.000 in meta ads alone.

1. Create Your Landing Page

Before creating your Meta campaign, you'll need a landing page where can filter users, bots, and guide them exactly to your desired streaming platform, in this article we will talk about spotify as is the biggest streaming platform out there, but you can apply the same concepts for every other platform.

There are several ways to create one:

  • Escalium (recommended)

  • Linktree

  • ToneDen

  • Hypeddit

  • Feature.fm

  • Your own website

  • Any custom landing page builder

The important part is that visitors land on a page where you can measure their actions before they leave for Spotify or another music platform.

2. Connect Your Meta Pixel

To measure conversions, your landing page needs your Meta Pixel installed.

2.1 Using Escalium

Connecting your Meta Pixel in Escalium only takes a few seconds.

While Creating or Editing your Landing page a section called "Meta Pixel ID (optional)" will appear

Paste your Pixel id and That's it.

Escalium automatically loads your Meta Pixel on every page and tracks the conversion event when users click one of your music platform buttons.

2.2 Using Other Landing Page Platforms

Most landing page builders provide a field where you can paste your Meta Pixel ID.

The process usually looks like this:

  1. Open your landing page settings.

  2. Navigate to Analytics, Tracking, or Integrations.

  3. Locate the Facebook or Meta Pixel section.

  4. Paste your Pixel ID.

  5. Publish your changes.

Every platform is slightly different, but the setup is generally very similar.

2.3 Using Your Own Website

If you're using a custom-coded website, you'll need to install the Meta Pixel manually.

Paste the following code inside the <head> section of every page you want to track.

<script>
window.addEventListener('load', function () {
    !function (f, b, e, v, n, t, s) {
        if (f.fbq) return;

        n = f.fbq = function () {
            n.callMethod
                ? n.callMethod.apply(n, arguments)
                : n.queue.push(arguments);
        };

        if (!f._fbq) f._fbq = n;

        n.push = n;
        n.loaded = true;
        n.version = '2.0';
        n.queue = [];

        t = b.createElement(e);
        t.async = true;
        t.src = 'https://connect.facebook.net/en_US/fbevents.js';

        s = b.getElementsByTagName(e)[0];
        s.parentNode.insertBefore(t, s);

    }(window, document, 'script');

    fbq('init', 'YOUR_PIXEL_ID');
    fbq('track', 'PageView');
    fbq('track', 'ViewContent');
});
</script>

Replace YOUR_PIXEL_ID with your own Meta Pixel ID.

3. Create a Custom Conversion Event

Most advertisers optimize for PageView, but if you are trying to increase your streams, this is the worse thing you can do, because you will see a lot of results inside meta but no results on your streams.

Someone visiting your landing page doesn't mean they listened to your song or saved your playlist.

A much better optimization is tracking when someone clicks to the button of your landing page, where they would actually listen to your song.

This gives Meta a much stronger signal about who is actually interested in your music.

3.1 Escalium

This step is already handled automatically.

When you connect your Meta Pixel to your Escalium campaign, every outbound music button click automatically sends the SpotifyClick conversion event (or the corresponding streaming click event).

No additional setup is required.

3.2 Other Platforms

If you're using another landing page builder or your own website, you'll need to create this event yourself.

  1. Open https://eventsmanager.facebook.com/events_manager2

  2. Click "Create custom conversion"

  3. Choose a name and a description (ty to create a name you will later on remember will setting up your campaign)

  4. Choose your landing page

  5. Inside "Event" choose "View Content"

  6. Inside Rules create these 2:

    1. URL + CONTAINS + (your button streaming platform inside the landing page)

    2. REFFERING DOMAIN + CONTAINS + (your button streaming platform inside the landing page)

This way you will filter your desired audience.

  1. Create custom conversion

After that you will need to test this custom conversion by pressing that button in your landing page.
When enough tests has been done Meta will begin collecting conversion data for this event.

3.3 "I don't see the custom conversion"

If you don't see anything, we recommend creating a campaign with a low budget, such a $5/day, and test a few ads with this landing page in a country with very low CPM so meta recognises this event faster.

4. Create Your Meta Campaign

When creating your campaign choose "sales campaign" and use the following settings at the adset level.

  1. Conversion Location: Website

  2. Performance Goal: Maximize Conversions

  3. Dataset: Select your Meta Pixel.

  4. Conversion Event: Select your custom event (or SpotifyClick if you are using escalium.io)

This tells Meta to optimize your ads toward people who are most likely to click through to your music instead of simply visiting your landing page.

Why Is This So Important?

Meta's algorithm is very advanced (and very smart) but it learns from the input we choose, that means if you try running a campaign without a very specific goal, you will waste your money (quite literally)

If you optimize your campaign for Page Views it will increase your traffic for sure, but you are looking for streams not for views.

When you create custom event like we have inside escalium.io "SpotifyClick", you're giving Meta a much defined goal goal.

Think of it like this:

  • Page View optimization = People who visit your landing page.

  • SpotifyClick optimization = People who are more likely listen to your music (aka: money on the bank)

5. Behind the Screens

Escalium is more than just another music marketing tool.

Behind the platform is a team dedicated to building the best music marketing platform possible for independent artists, labels, and agencies.
